Joe Biden Lied About His Support Of The
Bankruptcy Bill

  • 2005: Joe Biden was one of only five democrats that voted against a proposal to require credit card companies to provide more effective warnings to customers about the consequences of paying only the minimum amount due each month.

  • 2005: Joe Biden voted for the misleadingly named "Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention & Consumer Protection Act". This bill was pushed heavily by MBNA, and it actually weakened bankruptcy protections for consumers. Biden supported this bill from the beginning and voted for it four separate times until it passed. Conveniently, Joe Biden's son, Hunter received "consulting fees" from MBNA from 2001 until 2005. This situations sounds eerily familiar...Biden has received $208,175 from MBNA executives from 1989 through 2010, the second-largest source of contributions. In the 2006 election cycle, executives from Citigroup donated $18,825, those from Bear Stearns donated $15,000 and from Goldman Sachs donated $10,500. In total, Biden has received $1,126,375 from the securities and investment industry, $304,475 from finance and credit companies, and $295,900 from commercial banks. In return, he votes for bills that deregulate their accountability and create loopholes for profit gain. Bernie Sanders, Dianne Feinsten, Barack Obama, Chuck Schumer all voted against the bill, so Joe Biden has some explaining to do.

  • 1999: Joe Biden advocated and voted for the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999, which overturned a law which separated commercial & investment banks. The impact of this law was to centralize the decentralized US banking system, consolidating power and risk into a few institutions referred to as "too big to fail". He helped CAUSE the banking crisis and recession of 2008.

  • 1996: Joe Biden voted for the "Personal Responsibility & Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996", which added work requirements and a five year lifetime limit on the program TANF (Temporary Assistance To Needy Families). Bill Clinton’s welfare reform was almost identical to the bill introduced by Newt Gingrich following the Republican takeover of Congress two years previously. It ended the entitlement status of AFDC welfare benefits, included workfare provisions, and a lifetime limit on benefits received under the new Temporary Assistance for Needy Families programs. More than 20 years later, it is clear that TANF did nothing to improve the lives of the poor, instead condemning an entire generation Americans to extreme poverty.

  • 1994: Joe Biden wrote the 1994 crime bill called , which allocated $10 billion for the construction of new prisons and incentivised states to pass "truth in sentencing" laws. Such laws take discretion away from judges by requiring violent offenders to serve a minimum of 85% of their prison time.

  • 1994: Joe Biden voted for the "Riegle-Neal Interstate Banking & Branching Efficiency Act", which enabled commercial banks to do business across state lines. This, along with many other votes, is what CAUSED the recession of 2008.

  • 1984: Joe Biden co-sponsored a bill called the "Comprehensive Crime Control Act". This bill expanded civil asset forfeitures in which law enforcement seize property suspected of being involved in a crime, without due process.
